VALEDICTORY
MR. H. F. GABITES. To-day Mr H. F. Qubites severs his connection as first assistant at the local State School, after a period of upwards of fourteen years faithful service. Some time ago Mr Gabites accepted a transfer as first assistant, to the Lvtton Street School, Feilding, where he will take up his duties on April sth. Those connected with the School, including parents and the general public, will sincerely regret Mr Gabites’ departure. His influence not only as a teacher, but as a character builder, will leave a lasting impression for good on the children who have passed through his hands. Both, in and out of school he has been a gentleman. During the whole period of his connection with the school not a single complaint has been registered against hint—a record of which any teacher might feel proud. Had Mr Gabites followed his bent in science and art there is no doubt he would have made his mark in the v higher seats of learning, but lie stood loyally by the primary school. His pupils, however, at times got a peep at vistas outside the primary curriculum. Writing as an interested parent, we place on record ■ our appreciation of his faithful service, which we feel confident will he generally endorsed. While the public of Foxton will congratulate Lyttou Street on securing the services of Mr Gabites, general regret will be felt at his departure. At the local school this afternoon Mr Furrie, head master, and his staff‘and pupils will say farewell to Mr Gabites, and present hint with a memento vl their esteem.
