BEACH IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.

In conversation with Mr A. Dawick, chairman of. the Foxton Beach Improvement Committee, we were informed that £2O on the hall would be paid off at an early date, leaving a -balance of £2O still owing. The piano is paid for, and tire hall is a source of revenue to the Committee, and meets a need in the social life of beach patrons. No fixed hiring* fees are charged for the use of the building, but those requiring it for social purposes make a donation to the funds, which in the past have been very generous. Mr I)a----wick says that a picket fence is required in order to improve its appearance. He said that ihe recreation ground required fencing, and ' when this was done the annual sports gathering could be held in the enclosure, and a charge made for admission, which would further augment the funds. A good deal of tree planting had been carried out, and in this connection the Committee was indebted to the Foxton Harbour Board for a generous grant. A dressing-shed was required for men. and the present shed for women removed to another site, as it was at present on the road line. In reference to the life-saving reel, the Committee was indebted to various Palmerston tradesmen for work and material, and it was hoped to have the reel ready for use and properly housed before next summer. Funds would he required for a suitable building, and dressing a'ecommoda--tion for the life-saving corps. He hoped with the co-operation of all. interested to raise the money roil aired for these purposes. He wished to specially thank Mr IV. Bock for the interest and financial assistance given to the Committee, and to others who had assisted in any way to popularise t.he local seaside.
