BOROUGH COUNCIL

SPECIAL MEETING,

A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night to discuss tenders for carting, and general business. Present: The Mayor (Mr John Chrystall) and Crs Coley, Bryant, Hunt, MeMurray, Pearson, Parkin, Rand and Thompson. Cr Walker was granted leave of absence. TENDERS FOR CARTING. The tender of Messrs Coley Bros, for carting 100 yards of pit metal at 10s per yard was accepted, and that of TI. Osborne for carting shingle, cement and pipes, excepting horse and dray hire. GOOD FRIDAY PICTURES. An application was received from Messrs W. Hamer and Son for permission to show pictures at the Royal on Good Friday. On the motion of Crs. Coley and Thompson the application was refused, Crs, Rand and Hunt opposed the motion. WATER AND DRAINAGE. > A letter was read from the engineers, asking authority to procure 406 to 500 F. and G. earthenware pipes; not previously provided for. On the motion of Crs. Bryant and Parkin, authority was given to procure one truck of pipes as specified, at 2s 5d per 2ft. length. GAS CONNECTIONS. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Bryant, it was resolved that the cost of 2-inch gas service pipe from Clyde Street main to Messrs Perreau’s and the C. M. Ross Co.’s premises be borne equally by the parties. ‘ TEMPORARY PREMISES. On the motion of Cr. Coley, seconded by the Mayor, it was decided to call Messrs C. M. Ross and Co.’s attention to the fact that the permit for temporary premises in Main Street expired on October 12th, 1020, and hoping that a permanent structure lie erected without delay. AWAHOU DRAIN. It was resolved that ha!f-eo-t oi piping Awahou drain along the gas works section and Easton Park reserve lie charged <1 o Reserves account, viz., £7l 8- 2d.
