HIGH COMMISSIGNER’S CABLE. The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated 12th inst., from the High- Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Meat. —Home killed in small supply, Average prices are: Beef Is sid, mutton Is 9d, lamb 2s lid per lb. Chilled beef, moderate supplies at maximum price. Market is affected by large supply of frozen beef, large proportion being of inferior quality, selling at irregulhr prices. Prime Argentine ox, frozen, lid and 7d, but inferior quality about as low as 8d and fid hinds and fores respectively. New Zealand beef, sales and quotations nominal. Imperial Government owned New Zealand mutton difficult to sell, owing to being heavy weight. Free New Zealand light weight mutton and lamb selling freely at maximum prices.

Butler. —Position is not changed. English, small supply, average price is £lB 13s per cwt. (3s 4d per lb.). Irish quoted at £l3 10s to £ls per cwt. (2s s<l to 2s 8d per lb.).

Cheese. — English scarce and firm at £8 8s to £9 2s per cwt. (Is fid to Is 7ld per lb.). Canadian, small supply, white £7’ 14s to £7 18s per cwt. (Is 4ld per lb.), coloured £8 lo £8 4s per cwt. (Is fid to Is (ijd per Hi.). New eZaland, white selling freely, £7 (is to £7 8s per cwt. (approx. Is 3j‘d per lb.), but coloured practically cleared, quoted at £7 18s to £8 per cwt. (approx. Is fid per lb.). Australian, white, £7 2s to £7 (is per cwt. (Is 31d to Is 31d per lb.), coloured £7 12s to £7 18- per cwt. (Is I'd lo ,1s 4 : ld per lh.). Final allot incut Government cheese being made. Is 41(1 per Hi. wholesale, and Is 8d per lb. retail. Wool. —Bradford trade dull. 1 cry little new business passing in either tops or yarn, and prices arc in favour of buyers* Tops, quotations nominal, C4’s (Merino) 3s lid; s(i’s (super ha If bred) Is 7 cl; 40’s (coarse crossbred), prepared, Is 3:; cl per lb.

Hops.—Trade still controlled. All English have been released by Controller, and greater part arc in the hands of brewers, Control price to growers for this_season fixed at an average of £l7 10s,
