RIFLE SHOOTING.
Messrs Head and Frankland returned last week from the Greytown and Trentham rifle meetings, and Mr H. Hamer the previous week, from Greytown. All. three contestants were fortunate enough to figure among the prize-winners, especially Mr Head, who did very well at both meetings. The trip was an enjoyable one, and fine weather favoured the riflemen generally. AVea- ! her conditions for shooting were very hard, however, particularly at Trentham, and the further knowledge of shooting gained by the local riiiemcn, not forgetting the hints picked up in regard to the rifle, should prove of much benefit to them, and to the club generally. Last Saturday a few members turned up for a practice shoot on the local range. Mr A. Bernard was there with his patented aperture sight. Those who have used this sight are highly pleased with -the results obtained. Messrs N. Robinson and G. Cull, who tried if on Saturday, shot well above average, the former putting on 31 with seven shots. The patented feature of the sight lies in the manner of attachment, to the rille, and its position. thereon, which greatly improves the quality and accuracy of aim,
A meeting of Club members was held on Tuesday night, Mr S. Head (president) occupying, the chair. Arrangements in connection with next Saturday’s shoot for the Fresh Food and Ice Co.’s Cup was dealt with- Mr Claris moved a vote of thanks and congratulation to the dub representatives at the Wairarapa and Trent ham meeting, which was spoken to and carried with acclamation. The secretary was instructed to write to headquarters, Palmerston N., urging the necessity for fixing up new targets, since the range is under Government control, and used by Territorials and cadets, and the Department should therefore share its responsibility in this connection. The team for the Cup shoot on Saturday is as follows Messrs Head, Hartley, A. and C. Barnard, H. Graham, H. Fraukland, W. Symons and H. Hamer; emergencies, Messrs H. McKegney and C. Rand. It was decided to write the Bulls club and endeavour to arrange a friendly match at Bulls on Saturday week. Other minor business was dealt with, and the meeting rose,
