CARNIVAL NOTES
CITIZEN’S QUEEN. Shop* day was hold on Saturday last, and was a great success. The Committee desire to thank all those who so kindly sent along gifts and donations, also those wjio assisted the ladies during the day, and Mr Perreau for the use of his shop. Competitions were won by the following:—Camisole, Miss Edwards (Poplar Mill); framed picture, Mr Holt, No. 113; box chocolates, Mrs Honore, No. 37; iced cake, Mrs E. Healey, 171 beans; kettle, D. Christie, 141 yards of string; dinner, Mrs A. Baker, No. 96; tea, Mrs Ball and Mr Eollas, weight 291b5.; blouse,. Miss V. Anderson, No. 6; sheep, Messrs Healey and Spiers, weight 371 lbs.; pig, Mr W. Healey, 181 lbs.; doll and cake, Dorothy Desmond, name Madge; supper-cloth, Mcsdames F. Petrie and W. Woodham, both No. 253. These two ladies are requested to call at Mr A. N. Smith’s drapery shop on Thursday afternoon, at 4 p.m. Tickets for the dance on the 22nd inst. are now out, and selling well, and an excellent evening’s enjoyment is assured. The children’s ball on Thursday next should be a treat for the children. SPORTS QUEEN. The Sports Queen Committee are holding a dance at Oroua Downs tonight, which promises to be another success.
.The Dance held in the Masonic Hall last Saturday was very well attended, and all voted it a delightful turnout. The date of the Moonlight Excursion will be announced shortly, and tickets put on sale. FARMERS’ QUEEN. v Members of the above Committee are reminded of the meeting to be held in the Town Hall supper-room this evening. All dance tickets are to he handed to the secretary not Inter than to-morrow night. NATIVE QUEEN. * The Native Queen series of concerts are being well patronised throughout the district, and should be the source of much revenue. FIBRE QUEEN. A meeting of ladies interested in furthering the candidature of the Fibre Queen was held in the Town Hall last evening, when various schemes were discussed. ALL QUEENS. Tickets have been selling fast for the picture entertainment to be given at the Royal Theatre to-morrow and Thursday evenings, in aid oi all the queen candidates. The feature, “Mind the Paint, Girl,’’ promises something specially line, accompanied by selected appropriate music arranged by Mr Golder. POSITION'OF FLAGS. The Position of the flags at present is:—Citizens on top. Sports second; Fanners third, Fibre fourth, and Native fifth.
