“Slaves of Pride,” to-night’s star attraction, contains a theme that is distinctly human, and the drama, tha_t is unfolded is one that takes place dailly in many homes. Tho girl who is bartered off in matrimony to the highest bidder is a familiar type, but in the graceful hands of a jovely star like Alice Joyce it finds a new appeal in every situation. Her radiant beauty is an added attraction to her wonderfully convincing portrayal of the girl in; the question, and at no time during the course of the story does her characterisation drop from a very high level. As an extra, another episode of “Smashing Barriers” will be screened. ' In Tom.Mix’s new photodrama, “The Speed Maniac,” showing on Monday, the man who has the reputation of never faking on the screen is said to reveal his skill and prowess to such a degree that his numerous admirers will wonder if there be anything this famous cowboy star cannot do. The story of “The Speed Maniac” opens with Mix as a ranchman in Nevada. The winding way of ambition and adventure takes [lim to San Francisco, where lie makes himself a hero by rescuing a pretty girl from a runaway and discovering Cupid; winning a great auto race in which he risks life and 1 limb, and regsters lis inimitable skill*as a horseman, /i gunman and a boxer.
