(To the Editor.) Sir. —1 would like to know why local men should lie turned down by the Council, some of whom are ratepayers, when a local job is available. To my mind the appointment of an outsider to the gas works is peculiar. Is it a fact that a councillor is a relative of the successful applicant. I should like to hear the views of the ex-stoker, as I believe he can let some light on the subject. About eight local men, married with families, were turned down. Yours, etc., ‘ FAIR PLAY.
