ROYAL PICTURES.

The first law of nature is that of .self-preservation, and this forms the theme of the Rathe feature, “The First Law,” to he screened tonight, in which the dainty and lovely Irene Castle as the heroine passes through untold vicissitudes at the hands of a band of blackmailers, in whose toils she has become enmeshed through a youthful marriage to a worthless husband. The story is mystifying to a fade-out, and the star gains one’s sympathy for her natural and appealing impersonation of Norma Webb. The leading man is the old favourite, Antonio M/reno. In support of the star feature is a rollicking comedy with the breailt Of the old Keystone days in every scene.

The great thrills which are inseparable from the motion picture work of William Farnum are promised in abundance in this star’s latest pho-to-drama, “Wolves of the Night," which will be seen on Monday. One of the most thrilling points in the story, it is'understood, is the great mine scene where Farnum, as the hero, is imprisoned in a mine through an explosion of dynamite intended to destroy him. His: eventu-* til escape, in a crazed condition is described as one of the most powerfully graphic scenes ever enacted fyr the films. The romantic element is an important factor in the play.

Also Sunshine comedy. “The Jazz Bandits."
