CARNIVAL NOTES.
Farmers’ Queen (colour: violet— Miss E. Bowe). —A large and rfiprtK sentative meeting of those interested in the above queen candidate was held in the Town Hall supper-room last, evening. The following committee was appointed: Mr aWbowc (chairman), Mr R. Shaw (secretary and treasurer), committee: Messrs T. Jewell, J.' Burr, V. McDowell, Upton, S. Wilson, D.i-Purc«ll,~Bid Smith, llev. Father Forrestal, Misses Hughes, A. and J. Bowe, Mesdames J. Purcell, • D. Purcell, 0. Upton, S. Wright, Hynes, W. Smith. It was decided to hold a shop day for the sale of produce, etc. A dance is- to he held in the Town Hall on Tuesday, March Bth. As a very energetic committee has been formed to carry out the above function an enjoyable evening may be looked forward to. As this eon- . eluded the business of the meeting, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the chair, and Mr Reid for his very able assistance. SPORTS QUEEN—SHOP DAY.
The first shop day in connection with the Queen Carnival will be conducted by the Sports Committee on the section next to the C. M. Ross Coy’s, on Saturday next. The s ] lo p will be well stocked with a variety of lines, thanks to the kindness of the local public. Competitions of various kinds will be run during the day. FIBRE QUEEN DANCE. A social and dance in aid of the candidature of the Fibre Queen will be held in the Masonic Hall tomorrow (Friday) night. Admission, gentlemen 2s fid. ladies Is fid. CITIZENS’ QUEEN. The Citizens’ Queen had a very i successful meeting on Tuesday night, A strong working committee of ladies and ' gentlemen has been formed, and some money-making unis have been fixed for early dates.
SPORTS QUEEN DANCE. The Sports Queen Dance held la-r Tuesday evening was a great success. The Hall was tastefully decorated, light blue (Sports colours) being predominant. Supper was provided by Mrs Walls, in her usual capable manner, and Mr Smith acted as M.C. efficiently. The Sports Committee worked hard with the blue rosettes, of which a large number were sold. Mr Stevenson made a handsome donation of 7s fid in every £1 taken at his stall, so that from these combined sources the Sports raised a large amount for their opening shot.
