ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

Dunedin, Feb. 7

A well-known' AVaimate resident, Air Alfred James Manchester, aged 50, while motoring with a companion yesterday from AA annate to Dunedin, was killed near Palmerston through the car capsizing’. At Palmerston on Saturday afternoon, Mr Maurice Hickey had the misfortune to he thrown from his bicycle and severely injured as the result of a collision with a taxi car driven by Air J. Muir. It appears that Air Hickey had warning of the approach of the motor, and endeavoured to cross in front, but be-fore-the car could be steered to avoid him the collision had taken place, the cyclist being thrown a distance of several feci and rendered unconscious. He was removed to the hospital, and on examination it was found that Air Hickey had sustained severe injuries, a number of ribs being broken and the left check painfully cut. Air Hickey subsequently recovered consciousness, and is progressing favourably. A half-caste Maori lad named Richmond Davis, aged 12 years, was drowned in the Wanganui River while bathing yesterday. • Mona Gunderson, ’ aged 13, was drowned in the Alangatainoka river at Putara yesterday. She was bathing with other girls, and got out of her depth. Artificial respiration v.t.s tried, hut failed, The body of a woman, between 25 ami 30 years of age, was found on the New Brighton beach, at Christchurch, yesterday. It had only been in. the water for a few hours. Mrs Moore, of Bexley road, New Brighton (Christchurch), was thrown from a horse yesterday anu killed, her neck being broken. She was belter known as Miss !.• But-: ton, in whose colours Slow tom, a. winner of the Grand National Steeplechase, used to nice. She was a keen follower oi hounds, and was interested in all matters relating tu the turf.
