BOWLING.

At. a. meeting of the Alanawatu Bowling Centre held this week, the following arrangements for the Easter Tournament were made: Play to commence on Good Friday (March 25th), and continue for three days, during which nine games will have been played (3 each day). On the fourth day section winners and section ties go forward -and play on the “sudden death” principle until winning rinks are found. Priority of byes will he given to rinks winning most games in sections. First prize, trophy value £2O; second; £l2; third,'£B; and fourth £4..' Entrance fee, 12s 6d per player. Entries close March 18th. A letter was read from the AVangaiuii Centre asking Manawatu Centre to arrange a visit of 8 rinks to Wanganui; —It was decided to write to the Wanganui Centre asking if February 23rd was a convenient date.

AVith regard to the forthcoming visit of South Auckland teams (6 or 8 rinks), it was agreed that nil clubs in the Centre should have equal representation in the rinks to play them, as far as was practicable.

Mr Bartholomew raised the question of bowl-testing . Under the present system, he said, it was a perfect farce. He quoted instances of “bowl-testing” which had recently come J o his notice, and advocated stricter methods in this important matter.

The chairman observed that there was only one opinion amongst howlers —that it was a huge mistake to have the grass lest; the table test was the only real test for a bowl. The Dominion Council had the matter of howl-testing under consideration, and he hoped to have some information to submit to the Centre at its next meeting.

The holders of t lie Pennants appear to have a very firm grip of those trophies, having successfully defended their title to same in seven successive games. The following are the results of the last two games played: Beat Stevenson and D. Whibley by 22 points to 18; beat Furrie and F. Whibley by 20 to 18 o . The latter game was very closely contested, and an extra head had to be played to decide same.

On Wednesday afternoon next th* second of the series of Triangular Shield matches will he played on the local green, when four Foxton rinks will play two each from Shannon and Levin. Arrangement have been made for the refreshment t he provided by the local players, belli croquet and bowlers.

Arrangements are being made for a friendly visit to both Shannon and Levin on Wednesday, February 23rd, and also for one or two nuks to visit Shannon on Saturday, 26th instant. All players desirous of making the trip are requested to put: their names on the board at The green, so t-liat all the necessary arrangements can be made. , The Secretary of the local Club has received the following information from the Afanawatu Centre re visiting days: — The Manawain Centre has decided to arrange for visits to the various clubs in the Centre. The following has been arranged for the present month: —Visit to Alanawat.u green, February 9th, at 2 p.m.: Palmerston 2 rinks, Terrace End 1, Woddvillc .1, Feilding 2, Foxton 1, Levin 1, Shannon 1. Visit to Feilding green, February .16th, at 2 p.m.: Palmerston 2 rinks. Mnnawatu 2, Terrace End 2, Foxton 1, Woodvilie 1. Visit to Terrace End green, February 16th, at 2 p.m.: Palmerston 2 rinks, Manawatu 2, Palliatua 1, Shannon 1, Foxton 1, Woodville 1, Danncvirke 1.

The official initial opening of. the Bulls Bowling Club’s green will be held on Wednesday next, oth inst., and the secretary of the Foxton Club has received an invitation for Foxton bowlers to attend same.
