Stockings radiant with all the colours of the rainbow are the latest things in Paris feminine fashions. The foot is jet black at the ankle, the colour changes to blue, and then passes through the intervening shades before reaching a pale pink.
A seaman, who was supposed to have been drowned off the Isle of Wight and buried at Cowes, has just returned to his parents’ home at Wanstead. A body was recovered from the sea, and Ida Lawrence, of Southampton, said at the inquest that while she could not positively swear it was that of her husband, Frederick Sidney Lawrence, she recognised his braces and some keys. The jury expressed the belief Jhat the man was Lawrence, The following letter explaining the return of* the supposed dead man has been received by Mr W. Ct. Thomas, a Cowes undertaker, from Sirs Caroline Lawrence, of Wonstead. “I am so thankful now to sen you good news of the safe return of my dear son, Frederick Sidney Lawrence. The ship Paugbourne reached Wapping at 2.30 pan. on the 13th, and at 5.30 pan. he was in my home. He is in the best of health. A knock came to my door. I was quite alone, ; and when I opened it, as it was dark I could not understand who it was. He was loaded with parcels. I said, ‘You are making a mistake, my man,’ as he»was attempting to come in, and he replied, ‘No, I am making no mistake; this is my mother’s home. I am your boy, i Fred.’ ”
