HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER BOARDS.
Mr L. Birks' (Chief Government Electrical Engineer) presided at a, conference held in Palmerston IN • of representatives of various local bodies interested in the formation of boards for the control of Metric supplies from the plant at Mangalmo. Those present-included members of the Oroua Power Board, Provisional Power Board Committee, Palmerston North Borough Council, Kairanga County Council, and Manawatu- County Council. The Chairman explained the present position of affairs,- and said that the Minister had publicly affirmed the principle that the power boards should be as large as possible. After considerable discussion, Mr J. A, Nash, M.P., moved, and Mr J. Linklater (chairman of the Kairanjra County Council) seconded a motion, as follows: —“flint, in the opinion of this conference, if is desirable that a proper board, embracing Palmerston North, Manawatu, Kairatiga, Feilding, Oroua, Kiwitea, and Pohangina districts, should be formed, and that the Minister .be asked to proceed with the allocation of representation, and to take the necessary steps to form the board,” All those present, with the exception of the representatives of the Oroua Provisional Committee, expressed themselves as being in favour the motion, the Oroua representatives stating that they wore not authorised to vote. Evenually Mr Birks decided to take the names of the delegates in favour of the motion for submission to the Minister as expressing the desire of the areas concerned.
