EXPLOSION ON STEAMER.
Wellington, Last Night
The coastal steamer Xiapuni, which arrived at Wellington to-day from Pa tea, was severely shaken by an explosion of benzine at Patca on Tuesday afternoon, "What was believed to he a tin of kerosene was being poured into a tank in the engine room, when the liquid, which proved to be benzine, exploded. Mi X. Walker, the engineer, and W. Lcitch, fireman, were severely burnt about the head, face , neck and arms, and are m the Putea Hospital. The vessel escaped structural damage, excepting the paint work of the engine-room, which was burnt off, and the skylights, which were blown off the engine-room.
