BEACH IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Beach Improvement Committee was held on Saturday, the Blh ins!., when the following new commit tec was elected: — Messrs C. H. Whitehead, D. Lovelock, F. Kirk, T. R. B. Hoiben, A. Dawiek (Palmerston), the Mayor and President of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, W. Bock, W. E. Barber, and Ca.pt. Larsen (Foxton). The subject of finance was discussed, and it was decided to enrol members at an annual fee to be fixed, which would entitle them to use the tennis courts, hall, etc., and obviate collecting subscriptions. It was pointed out that an increased number of members would arouse a wider interest in Beach affairs. NOTES. Mr G. Langley lias disposed of his boardinghouse.
Dissatisfaction is expressed at flic cost of afternoon tea charged at the seaside. The police have been informed that certain people have been seen Inilhing on the ocean beach without bathing' cos I limes. Visitors are asked to assist Ihe police in obtaining I lie names of any one so offending against Ihe law of deeeney, in order that an .example may be made of them.
On New Year's Night Mr A. Dawick .who lms been our most enthusiastic worker a I the seaside, was presented with an illuminated address, as a small token of appvccialion and regard from Ihe sensiders.
The Beach Commit.ted is making enquiries in regard to Ihe purchase of a life-saving reel.
