DECEMBER GRADING

RETURNS

The following return of the hemp, tow and stripper slips graded during rite month of December lias been issued by the Department of Agriculture :

Hemp.—The tqtal number of bales graded was 8,732, as compar'd with 10,538 for the correspond.Jy period of last year, a decrease of 1,890 bales. For the 12 months ended 31st December, 1920, the number of bales graded was 88,220, as compared with 90,047 bales for the previous 12 months, a decrease of 11,427 bales.

Tow. — During the month 1,978 bales were graded, as compared with 2,414 for the corresponding month of last, year, a decrease of 430 bales. Frvr the 12 months ended 31st December, 1920, the number of bales graded was 19,391, as compared with 19,793 for the previous 12 months, a decrease of 392 bales. Stripper-slips. —291 bales graded, ns compared with nil for the same month last year, an increase of 291 hales. For ( the .12 months ended 31st December, 1920, the number of bales graded was .1,197, as compared with 12 bales for the previous 12 months, an increase of 1,185 bales. The detailed particulars of the grading of hemp at each port arc as follows: —

Fifty-one bales ih Picton were,' graded line, and 33 at Foxton,-98 at Wellington and 109 at Bind were rejected. The followin';' shows the number of hales in each grade, the figure* for the corresponding month of last year being given in pqronllicses: f’yie 53.
