BREACH OF THE LICENSING LAW.
At the Palmerston Magistrate's Court veslerday, before Mr J. h. Stout, S.M., three charges of having committed breaches of the licensing. laws were preferred against Frederick Joseph Swindell, licensee of the Junction Hotel, Conglmrn. The charges were that on Sunday, November 11th. accused had sold liquor, had kept the premises open for Mich sale, and had exposed liquor for sale. Defendant, who pleaded not guilty, was represented by Mr A. M. Ongley. Senior-Sergeant Fraser prosecuted for the police. After hearing evidence, the Magistrate held that a sale had been effected, and also observed that lie was not satisfied that the beer had been bought on the Saturday. Defendant was convicted accordingly, and lined £.lO for having sold liquor, (he other charges being withdrawn. John Smith was lined £2 and 7s costs for having been illegally on the premises.
