FOXTON STATE SCHOOL.
PRIZE-GIVING AND CHRISTMAS TREE. The prize-giving ceremony and Christmas tree in connection with the primer classes at the local State School took place in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. The primer ( lasses-were assembled on the stage 'ueatii the shade of a largo Christmas tree, to which were attached toys of all descriptions —a toy for each child. The body of I lie hall was occupied by parents and elder pupils. The Chairman of Committee (Mr Hornhtow) presided. The little ones sang a weleome song and a Christmas hymn. The Chairman, in a few remarks, said the parents and school were to be congratulated upon the excellent services of the Misses Ray (2), who had charge of the infant depart men!, and who were most enthusiastic and well-skilled in their work. The appearance of Santa Chnts (MrPerreau) drawn in a floral bedecked sledge by several sturdy boys, and preceded by a fanfare of caused great delight. The old gentleman, who appeared fatigued in body and voice, welcomed the children, and distributed to each child a gift from the tree, and on their leaving the hall a liberal supply of sweets. Hurrahs were given for Santa Claus by the children upon his arrival and departure. At (he conclusion of a very happy ceremony the National Anthem was sung. The following is the list of prize-winners:
