LONDON WOOL SALES.
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram. dated Bth instant, from the High Commissioner for New. Zealand, London: —
“Wool sales commenced yesterday with large attendance Prom all parts, but competition unsatisfactory and large proportion of Merinos and line crossbreds catalogued withdrawn ' without .bids. Medium crossbreds. —Fair bidding, and few superior lots, sold at unchanged price (viz., Is and Is Id per lb). Buyers purchasing to satisfy urgent requirements paid Government limit, irrespective of market value, which in manV'eases was lower. New Zealand lirst day’s catalogue included 2,073 bales, mostly slipes and scoured, which met poor demand. Average prices are: —GOV. to G-Fs (Merino) Is lOd to 2s fid per 11)., GO’s to fiG’s (halfbred) Is fid to 2s per lb., 48's (tine crossbred) Is 3d to Is fid per lb. Others neglected, no quotations. This week's offerings consist of: —Australian : Merinos, greasy 13,050 bales, scoured 3,G50 bales. Crossbreds, greasy 2,050 bales, scoured 750 bales. New Zealand: Crossbreds, greasy .1,000 bales, scoured 2,350 bales, sliped 1,700 bales.”
