BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
.. A meeting of members of the Beautifying Society was held on Friday afternoon, to discuss details in connection with the carnival to he held on the racecourse on February 2nd next. Mr M. E. Perrcau presided.

Tfe also men! ioned thal I here was a possibility of I tic* Wanganui Garrison Band playing at the Fox!on Knees on .January 22nd and 241 h, and if so, |he Band would be prepared to give an open air eoneerl on Sunday afternoon, half the proceeds to go to the Beautifying Society. The only difficulty in the way of the Band coining to Foxton was the cjiiestion of accommodation, and if it could be arranged for residents to billet Die members, the Band would be in attendance. —The matter was left in the hands of the Chairman to see if (he bandsmen could be billeted.
The Carnival Queen question was discussed at some length, and it wa.s eventually decided to have three candidates, nominations to be invited by advertisement, and if more than the required number are nominated the members of the Beautifying Society to elect the candidates by ballot.
. Progress reports were received from the various committees, and these point to the carnival being a huge success.
