CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.
The quarterly general meeting of members of the Chamber of Commerce was held last night. There was a fair attendance, and the president (.Mr •). AT. BarrJ presided.
Some little time hack the Chamber protested against a move to have a suburban railway area created aroitml Palmerston A'., and a letter in reply was read from the Kailway Department lasi night, advising that there wits no intention of creating same. A letter was read from the .Disputes Committee of the Waterside Workers’ Toleration, asking for the Chamber's eo-operal hm in their efforts to have, the weight of sacks of potatoes limited (o 200 Ihs. —It was decided to endorse the action of the Waterside Workers in this mailer. The Rev. W. IT. Walton was elected a member of the’( 'handier.
The President reported t hat I lie. Committed set up by (lie Chamber to approach the Borough Council with the request that a garbage cart should be provided to remove rubbish had waited on the Council, and that body had agreed to institute some system ot rubbCh removal. The Mayor said that a tender had been obtained tor a 'periodical removal of rubbish, and the details would be dismissed at the next meeting of the Council. Accounts amounting to £.4 Kis ()d were passed for payment. The President, who represented the Chamber at the annua! eonferonee of delegates from chambers of commerce, at Wellington last week, gave a brief outline of the business transacted at the conference.
