FOXTON BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

GALA DAY TO RAISE FUNDS. A general meeting of the local Beautifying Society was held on. Tuesday afternoon, for Ihe purpose of discussing ways and means of raising at least £SOO to assist the Society to carry out necessary improvements to Easton Park, and for the work of beautifying the borough generally. There was a represcuta- ' live gathering, and Mr M. Perreau presided. It was pointed out that the funds in hand totalled £O3 9s lOd, of which £l7 9s 3d had been collected by the Football Club and ear-marked for improvements to the Park. After some discussion it was moved.that a carnival he held on the Racecourse the first Wednesday in February, and that a Queen Carnival lie held in connection with same. Mr Rore Raugiheuea was elected carnival secretary, and the following sub-committees were appointed: Queen Carnival Committee. —Mesdames Moorhmme, MeMurray, Sid. Easton. Smith, Green, J. H. Robinson, Freeman, Messrs McMucvay. Moorhouse and Rev. AA alton. Men’s Committee for Art Unions, Side-Shows, Tug-of-AA ar, DecoraN ed Vehicles, etc. —Messrs C. H. Symons, Trueman, Reid, Smith, Christie, O’Donoghue, Perreau, Roore. Luncheon and Tea Rooms. —Ales - dames Aiistin-Johnston, W. Barber, Pearson, J. Ross, Ilalliday, Tver, Barr. Produce Stall. —Alesdames Robinson (4), Perreau, Ball. Baby Show. —Rev. Ilalliday ami Mr A. Stevenson. Sweets and lee Cream. —Miss Woodroofe. Fancy Stall. —Alesdames O’Donoghue, Alsop, Purcell (2), Desmond. Miss Smith. Children’s Sports. Messrs L. J. Fume, O'Brien, Poole, A, Stevenson. Mr Reid’s offer of screening notices at the Town Hall was gratefully accepted, also Mr Hallidny’s offer of the Presbyterian schoolroom for sub-committee meetings.
