N.Z. SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.

HANNAN DEFEATS FOGWEEL. The race for the New Zealand sculling championship took place on the Wairau river, Blenheim., on Saturday afternoon, between W. Fogwell (holder) and P. Hannan (challenger). Hannan won the toss, and took the inside position, leading right from the start. When near the Wairau shed Hannan struck' a snag and lost a little ground, hut at the half-way point he was four or five lengths ahead. Fogwell got too close iii to the hank, which he fouled and lost ground, but he quickly recovered and went after Hannan. He reduced the lend to. a couple of lengths, hut Hannan responded to every challenge. A hen smooth water was reached, Fogwell was rowing a quicker stroke, and he made a great effort to get fevel, but Hannan kept in front and 'won by a length and a-half. The time was 21min. 3 see.
