DANCING
A course of sermons on the morality of social pleasures will be given in All -Saints’ Church on Sunday evenings-. The subject last Sunday was “Dancing,” during the, course of which the vicar said: —The churches are faced' with the fact that a great number of its young people - have drifted away, and that they feel the Church has no sympathy or • interest in (hem. When we realise the great 'strain on our physical and mental powers, we shall understand why the desire and need of social pleasure and relaxation becomes greater, ft is therefore the Church’s opportunity to gain the sympathy of its people hy taking a keen interest, and by directing as far as possible the social aspect of the Church's work. The important (joint is, Will the developing of so- - cial pleasures, whether djiucing, amateur theatricals, or the various other forms of amusement, hinder or assist the Church in gaining an. influence over its people, and give it an opportunity of further devel- - oping and strengthening its hold upon the young, so that the spiritual side of (heir nature will he attended to? One can see the dangers on holli sides, hut human nature, in spite of what may be said to the contrary, is slid, sympathetic and
willing to listen to ihe call of ihe Gospel, The message that our Lord gave to Ilie'muititnde never lost its effect. The Gospel message is as powerful to-day, -but the Church must move with the times, and bring her methods up to date.
