SPORTING.
The Horowhemta Racing (.'tub's annual meeting took place at Levin yesterday. Light rain fell during the morning, si ml it was -bowery up to about oncm’clock, when the weather cleared. The threatening weather no doubt interfered with the attendance, but there was a good crowd present, and the lolali-alor handled £22,399, a big increase over last
yea r. The Fox ton trainers wore well represented at the meeting, IF McCauley taking down (liree horses, F. T. Watson two, A. M. 'Wright two, and .I I ’, .). Carmont live, but they were only successful in securing L'l2ll of prize money. Small dividends were tin* order of the day, there being only one double iigure dividend, thill paid by Espcrance in the Cup. Four of the win“i.ing horses returned loss than even money, and in two of the oilier races the first horses paid just over even money. in the Hurdles the locally owned md trained Diamond Nap who was fairly well supported on the machT,e. lost his rider at the-first jump. Hadify's bridle came oil. while she was doing here preliminary for the Cup, and the mare bolted round the •oin’sc, doing three and a-halt aides before she was induced to stop, i'he rider, Blanche, stuck to his mount, and received a great ovation from the crowd on returning to Ihe bird cage. Ladify was scratched in dds race, but was brought out later n the seven furlongs welter, and ran a good race under the eirenin--iances, and she eerlainß must atve had more than a rough eha.nee m the Cup had the bridle mishap tot oeettrrcd. The light-fingered fraternity were 'n evidenee yesterday, several of liaise present having their, pockets oicked. Mr F. T. Wiitson's Admiration won the Mouterc Hack Weller in ’:;oud style, and returned his backers die .smallest first horse dividend of. the day. Moutoa Ivanova ran third in the Cup, and Gold Problem and Beloved, both trained by F. d. Garmon!, Idled second and third- positions in the McDonald .Memorial Handicap, in which there were live Harters.
