ENGINE SMASH AT HUIA MILL.

DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £2,000

A serious machinery breakdown took place at Air AV. Petrie’s “Huia” Mill, .on the riverbank, yesterday morning. The main crank shaft attached to the. 85 h.p. suc-tion-gas engine broke, carrying away the whole of the front part of the engine and bed. The 6-ton flywheel, spinning at. 185 revolutions a minute, crashed into the expansion box, scrubber and generator, with disastrous effect, which, however, broke, its impetus and Right, otherwise it is probable that if would have been hurtled through the air to Hie adjoining mill,* with results that can he better imagined than described. ■■

Eortuualely no one was injured

The report of the crash was heard some considerable distance away. Air Petrie had recently effected repairs to the engipc at a cost of £l5O, and shortly before the break; remarked how well the engine avus i mining.
