SEPTEMBER WORKING
The amount of gas manufactured during the month of September was 523,200 ft., which with the amount in holder on September Ist, 18,000 ft., made a total of 541,200 ft. The amount sold to consumers for lighting was 175,000 ft., for cooking and heating 188,300 ft., and for power 70,300 ft., 25,300 ftLwas used in the street lamps, 25,000 ft. at the works and manager's house, and there was 10,000 ft. in Ihe holder on October Ist, leaving 35,300 ft., representing 01 per cent, of the output, unaccounted for. Fifty-one tons nine cwt. of coal was carbonised, yielding 10,100 ft. per* I 0n,.. The earnings were as follows: —Gas sales (lighting) £94 17s 3d, (healing and power) £135, 2s lid, coke sales £l3 18s (id, tar sales £23 8s Od, lilting account (including insurance from recent (ire) >£322 Is od, labour 7s (id, lolal £589 15s Bd. The expenditure was; Coal £125 4s Id, salaries, wages and labour £OO 0s lid, liftings £l2 17s Bd, meter repairs £34 0s Od, tools 10s od, plant £59 8s Sd, working expenses £2 3s sd, [minting and advertising £5 10s Bd, engine repairs and oil £5 2s 3d, freight, wharfage and cartage £0 15s 3d, miscellaneous £3, interest, and sinking fund £59 11s Bd, total £374 17s 2d. MANAGER'S REPORT.
The amount of gas manufactured in October was 481,200 ft., an increase of 17,500 ft. over the corresponding period of last year. The percentage of gas unaccounted tor in September was 0.8. 1 changed 15 meters on the first of last month, (hose lining the ones I reported as out of order last month. In reading the meters this month I find the amount of gas saved is, lighting 12,100, representing £0 10s 10d nett, This month I found nine meters not registering. I have just received lo repaired meters from Wellington, and am having them placed where repaired. Daring the month I connected up two gas cookers, and cleared four services of water and >and. I have also had the new iron painted and pul on the stokehouse, and as it is .Mill in had repair 1. a-4: that another 10 sheets of iron lie purchased. He extension of main to Whittaker Street: It would he necessarv lo bring a two-inch main from the Avenue to the corner of Whittaker Street, and a 11-inch main along that street. I have a promise of six consumers, so would recommend that this he done at the estimated'cost of £.1.00 Ids -Id. 1 tie two-inch main from the Avenue would give a belter supply lo the consumers in Hall Street. EXTENSION OF MAIN TO WHITTAKER STHMKT.
The Mayor said that in accordance with instructimis from the Commit the gas works manager had it led estimates lo the (las Works Committee of the cost of extending the mains in -h-uks Street, Purcell Street, Whittaker Street and Norbitoa Hoad. The matter had 'men gone into Jutly by the (ms Works Committee, and they recommended that the extension in Mlnltakev Street be proceeded with. As far as the other streets were concerned the cost ol the extensions were prohibitive when the probable consumption was taken into consideration, ami the Committee did not recommend proceeding with them. The report was adopted.
