FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.
The dllicial opening ol' Ihe local tennis court took place yesterday afternoon, but the incleim'iil weather marred the ceremony and prevented a large attendance. The newly-elected .president, the Rev. Mr Walton, in a happy speech, declared the courts open, and hoped the members would experience a successful year. In thanking the members for electing him president, lie said he would endeavour to assist the Club to the best of his ability, tie signified his intention of presenting a trophy for competition among Club members, whieh he hoped would stimulate their enthusiasm and assist in putting the Club on a sound playing basis.
Air Ale. Murray, on behalf ol (he Club, thanked the pres/denl for his generosity, which should stimulate members in their practice. The Club, was to be congratulated upon having obtained the services of such an enthusiastic president and player. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies. Owing to the rain and hail.-Torm it was impossible to indulge in play. In order to assist the Club's finances, a picture entertainment is to be held on Wednesday, 24th inst.
