RITUAL CONTEST,
The annual rifcnal contest behvccn teams from .the Druids’ Lodges in No. 3 district, which comprised the Ilorowhenua (Levin), Manawatu (Poxion), Shannon and Otaki Lodges, was held in the Druids’ Hall, Levin, on Wednesday night. There was a large attendance of brethren from the different lodges, each of wlfich had a team compel ing. The judges were: Grand Treasurer Bro. Laughton (Wellington), P.D.P. Bro. Todd (Upper Hull), and D.P. Bro. Boniface (Island Bay). The teams drew for places, Otaki drawing first place,' Horowhehua next, and (hen Shan-* non and Manawalu. The total points awarded to each team by thd judges was as follows : —Shannon 280, Manawatu 274, Horovvhemm 241, Otaki 171. The points awarded were made up as follows, the maximum in each section being given in parentheses: —Pronunciation and enunciation (50), Otaki 40, Ho-i vowhenua 41, Manawalu 48, Shannon 45; expression (50) Otaki 33, Ilorowhenua 30, Shannon 45, Manawatu 42; singing (25), Otaki 10, Ilorowhenua 20, Shannon 25, Manawatu 15; arrangements (25), Otaki 20, Ilorowhenua 25, Shannon 25, Manawatu 22; conception and general interpretation (55), Otaki 41, Ilorowhenua. 45, Shannon 48, Manawatu 47; accuracy (100), Otaki 27, Ilorowhenua 74, Shannon !)8, Manawatu 100. The Manawatu team was-as follows: —A.D., Bro. Hoore; J.P.A., Bro. 11. M. Carter; V.A., Bro. D. Ball; .secretary, Bro. P. 11. Murray; A.D.8., Bros. Tui Carter and A. Thompson; V.A.8., Bros. C. W. Kngland and 11. Itakarain; M.C., Bro. A. Smith; candidate, Bro. ,1. Burr. At the conclusion of the contest all,present were entertained at supper by the Ilorowhenua .Lodge. In giving the judges' decision, special reference was made to the manner in which the Manawatu Arch Druid, Bro. Poore, gave his charges, which Bro. Todd said was the. best lie had ever had the plea.-nre of listening !o. All the Manawalu officers put up good performances, Iml in tin; singing there Is no (jiiestion that they were weak; even so, in the opinion of a large number present they were unlucky in not being awarded tirst place.
