LOCAL SUGAR SHORTAGE.
BUSINESS MAX'S ENTERPRISE, PLENTY OF SUGAR IN AUCKLAND. For the past month there has been a. sugar shortage in Foxlon lu fuel, al times the local slows have not had a grain on the premises. Many householders have keen using honey and golden syrup, as substitutes. A local business umn, getting no satisfaction from die Board of Trade after repealed application, decided on a personal interview with the Minister. Ho proceeded to Wellington, and explained the position to Mr Newman, member for the district, find asked for an nlerview with the Minister, the Hon, Mr Lee. The latter explained that there was plenty of sugar in Auckland, hut a lack of shipping., while railway freight would eliminate the retail profit. Air liill ioi■ slated that the protit was a secondary consideration provided the need-- of the local public were -mpplied. The Alinister got in touch with the Board, and Mr Hillicr, also explained the position, with the. result that the sugar is being forwarded immediately.
