When the House of Representatives met this afternoon, .Mr Masters (Stratford) drew attention to llie position wih regard to the subsidy on blitter 'of the small dairy farmers who manufacture separator butter because there was no dairy factory in their vicinity. Farmers who supplied dairy factories were to receive a subsidy of (Id per lb., but no provision appeared to have been made for those avlio were less fortunately placed in remote districts. Mr Masters asked if the same consideration would be extended them as k> (hose who snpulied factories.
The Prime Minister said that ho appreciated the point raised, and ho agreed with Mr Masters that those not'within the , reach of factories Humid receive some encouragement It was upon (lie farmers in outlying districts that the country would have to depend in future years for much of its bill ter supply. He could .not give an answer to the question at once, as ho would have to see if it was ppc.-ible to give a subsidy. He would have inquiries made as to the quantity of butter produced in this way, and also the quality, ami inform the House of his decision as mint as possible.
