BOWLING.
The official opening of the Shannon howling green look place yesterday afternoon under ideal weather conditions. There was a large attendance, including visiting howlers from Ihe Levin, Palmerston, Fox ton and Otnki' clubs. The president of the elnh (Mr -1. W. Murray) welcomed the* visitors and formally declared the green open, Mrs Alnrray rolling the first bowl. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent, the visitors being hospitably entertained. Spring Ay re Merecr Howell Hryanl Witched F. W’hibley (s) 12 Wimlley (s) 31 The Foxlon elnh was also reprey sealed at the opening of the Maimwatu club’s green at Palmerston Xorth. The green was in good order and some good play resulted. 'The Foxton players hud a very elose. and interesting game. After the twentieth head had been played Manawatn were leading by one point, and when (he skips went down on the hist head Manawatn were lying three, hut fsye drove the bare jaek and killed the head. Players wishing lo attend any of the above are requested to put their manes on the hoard at the
green. A meeling of the committee <>L the local club was held on Tuesday evenin'.;' when a number of del a ils in pommel ion with the ollieial opening of the green on Wednesday aider - noon next were arranged. The Secretary ’and Mr Xyc wen - authorised -to purchase new mats, jacks, rink boundary markers, and blade.for mowers. The question of refreshments for opening-day was discussed, and it was decided that each member of the club be asked to take a basket that day. Notification was received that in luturo challenges for the Hum, Dixon and Hanson and Barr Cups must lie .sent to the Hanawntn Centre, which bodv will arrange all these challenge matches. Hr H. H. Daniell was elected a member of the club. - committee consisting of ‘ Vlt '” s1 ’ s Dr ’ Handl. Fume, Boon* and I’- 'Vlu>lev was set up to revise the rules winch will later be referred to a special general meeting for adoption. -
