SEPTEMBER GRADING RETURNS.

The following arc (he quantities of hemp, tow, and stripper-slips graded at the ports of the Dominion during the month of September, 1920: —

Hemp.—The total number of bales "rafted was 5,727, as compared witii 6,9.12 for the corresponding' period of last: year, a decrease of 1,185 bales. For the 12 months ended 30th September, 1920, the number of bales graded was 96,407, as compared with 100,897 for the previous 12 months, a decrease of 4,490 bales. Tow. —During (he month 1,838 bales were graded, as compared with 1,531 for the same month last year, an increase of 307 bales. For the 12 months ended 30th September, 1920, the number of bales graded was 21,835, as compared with 15,855 for the previous 12 months, an increase of 5.980 bales. Stripper-Slips. During the month 120 bales were graded, as compared with 12 bales for the same month last year. For the 12 months ended 30th September, 1920, the number of bales graded was 612, as compared with 289 for the previous 12 mouths, an increase of 323 bales. The following are (he details of the grading of hemp at the different ports: — Good High ConG Fort. Fair. Fair. Fair. mhi. Auckland 185 219 478 2 Wellington 212 1526 241 50 Foxton 448 1538 359 53 Bluff 80 59 82 Dunedin 50 117 1 One hale at Foxton and 26 at Wellington were rejected. The number of bales graded at each port was as follows: —Auckland 884, Wellington 2,055, Foxton 2,39!), Bluff 221, Dunedin 1(58. The number of bales in each grade throughout I tic Dominion was as under, the totals for the corresponding month of last year being given in parentheses Good fair 975 (880), high fair 3,45!)
