FOOTBALL.
The return match between the local junior team and a'fifteen comprised of “has-beens and others” was played on Easton Park on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the juniors by Ki points to 3. The first spell was fairly even, the score at half-time being 5 —3, but. in the second spell condition told, and the juniors put on an additional 11 points. Dr. Adams refereed. The pate money totalled £5 2s (id. At Palmerston on Saturday, the Pirates won the Abraham Cup, defeating' Feilding by 13 to 3. Jackeytown defeated High School for the Rogers Cup by 3 to nil (a penalty goal). At Westport on Saturday, BuHer defeated West Coast by 12 to 9.
The MArisf Bros, premier Rugby team played Canterbury at Lancaster Park, Christ church, on Saturday, and won by 8 points to 3. The final representative football match of the season, Otago versus Southland (holders of the Kanfurly Shield) was played at Dunedin on Saturday, before 10,0(H) spectators. Play was of a ragged order, and confined to the forwards. Otago led at half-time by three points (one try) to nil. In the second spell Edwards potted a fine goal for Otago.. Xear the call of lime Miller scored for Southland, the kick failing—Otago 7, Southland 3.
INTER-SCHOOL GAMES.
POX TON SCHOOL v. LEVIN D.H.S.
On Saturday a girls' basket-1ml) team and a hoys’ football team from the local State School, accompanied by Miss MeM array and Messrs L. J. Furric and IL Gabites, travelled to Levin to play the Levin District High School. The children wen l taken over in iwo cars and one motor lorry, arriving in Levin about 2 pan. The girls’ basket-baII match was played at once. As the local girls are only beginners, and this* was their tirm match, Levin played only 3 of their hesl players, the other six being second team players. In the first ten minutes three goals wore scored by Levin, hut by litis lime the local girls had learnl something from their opponents, and no further score was made, the game ending 0 points to nil in favour of Levin. Immediately after the match all adjourned to the football ground. In the first half the local hoys had the lies! of it, but in tlit* second half Levin boys plucked up heart and brought the score lo !) —8 in favour of Fox!on. There was an exciling linish, but Levin failed lo make a further score, the game ending !) —8 for Fo.xton. For Fox!on the following scored: —W. Christie (2) and (L Westwood. By no means the least part of the day’s outing was (he ia.st part, when Levin treated the local children lo a sumptuous tea. in this, all excelled. .Mr Furrie lhanked Levin very heartily for 1 he.* splendid time they had given the visitors, and said that he hoped we would he able to return their hospitality in the erieke! season. Mr Kockell replied, and il was decided to have a return match later on in the form of cricket and basket hall. The trip was made possible through the kindness of "Messrs Wm. Ross,.who provided a mol or lorry and driver, and Messrs Me .Murray and Gabites, who generously lenl and drove (heir ears for the children's benefit. To these genilemen, and to Mr C.
