FOXTON RIFLE CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Foxton Rifle Club was held last night. There was a large and cnthusnaslie attendance of members. The annual report stated, inter alia ; The season started with a credit balance of £l3 Os Id, and after a good year's shooting and the effecting of general repairs to sheds ami targets, ended with a credit of £3B Is fid, out of which sum the successful dance assemblies eontribuled £l2 7s (hi. The season commenced on September 27th, 1919, and a shoot was held practically every Saturday up to the end of June of this year, the prizes being won by the following: .Messrs A. Barnard, C. Barnard, J. Hartley, C. Rand, 11. McKeguey, 4. Rider, S. Head, 11. Claris, 11. Eranklaud, and C. Morgan. The committee desire to thank all those who donated cash prizes and trophies during the season. The Club made application for financial assistance to the Defence Office, Palmerston North, hut no definite satisfaction has yet been obtained, although officers from Palmerston North have twice visited Foxton to inspect the range. Fifteen rifles were purchased from the Ordnance Stores, Wellington, and sold lo members at 25s each, and these, with one exception, were found to have good barrels, and good work has been done with them. A picked learn visited both Levin and Han(ere Cross lo fire matches for (be "Fresh Food and lee Cup and Field Shield, but Hie team was defeated on both occasions by small margins, and Hie Fresh Food and Ice Cup, which had been held for four years, passed on to Hie Haulero Club, which also bolds Iho Field Shield. The dancing assemblies held by Hie (hub have been most successful, both socially and financially, and Ihe Club desires lo especially thank Mr J. Rider, through whose energy the success of the function was mainly due. Your Commillee is sorry to report Hie loss of the services of one of Hie vice-presidents, in the person of the Rev. \V. Raine, who lias left the disIricl, and who had always taken a very keen inlerest in Hie welfare of the Club.—-The report and balaucesbcel was adopted. The president of the Club (Mr C. H. Symons) wrole, advising that he would lie unable lo continue in office. Members expressed their appreciation of Hie excellent services rendered by Mr Symons, and it was unanimously decided tbal be be made a life member of the Club. The election of officers for the ensuing year result oil as follows: —• Patron, Mr Frank Robinson; president, Mr 4. N. Rider; vice-presi-dents, Messrs S. Head, J. Hartley, C. Ram! and H. McKeguey; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Claris; assistant secretary, Mr H. Fraukland; auditor, Mr F. D. Wbibley; committee, Messrs H. Erankland, R. Rand, AV. Symons, A. Barnard, and A. S. AValsh; selection committee, Messrs A. Barnard, S. Head and J. Hanley; liandieappers, Messrs J. N. Rider and IT. Frankland.
The following new members were elected: —Messrs Cull, Harold Graham, Marmcn Graham, Ingram, Cowley and Captain Elford. On Labour Day (October 25th) a team from the AVellington Suburbs Rifle Club is visiting Levin, and a triangular match between that Club and the Levin and Foxton Clubs will be fired at Levin. ,
It was decided to open the season on .Saturday, October 9th, with a match between teams selected by the President and Vice-President, and a Avorking bee will be held at the range on Saturday next to get everything in readiness. It was decided (hat the proceeds of the dancing assemblies be used for paying travelling expenses of members taking part in matches with outside clubs. Other routine business was transacted, and a vote of thanks to the chair concluded one of; the most enthusiastic and successful meetings yet held by the Club.
