COUNCIL OF CHURCHES’ RESOLUTION. Christchurch, Sept. 21. The Council of Churches has passed resolutions expressing “pleasure at the determination of the Legislative Council to introduce legislation which ,yyiil prevent abuses occasioned hy the No Toinerc Decree with reference to mixed marriages,” and also expressing the hope (hat “the clause proposed in the Bill to amend the Marriage Act. will he passed hy the House of Representatives in a form that will conserve the rights and lihcrtits of all denominal ions.” The Wellington Presbytery has passed a resolution that the Presbytery, having carefully considered the Marriage Bill now before Parliament, and being advised that the clauses introduced in the Legislative Council are doubtful in ell eel, urges Parliament to 'preserve the right of every church to hold and declare its religious doctrines, and at (he same time adequately protect the rights of all persons who ‘conform to the law of Hie land in respect to marriage. ROMAN CATHOLIC PROTEST. Hawera, Yesterday. The Hawera Catholic congregation unanimously passed a resolution, against the proposed amendment of the marriage law. The resolution stated: —“We stand by the Church in her contliet with the State, and will gladly suffer imprisonment, and even death, to uphold Catholic reverence for the holy sacrament of marriage and for laws of the Church that wisely protect it from profanation.”
