Al Thursday's meeting of t ho Hospital Board n lottor was received from Ilia College Street School Committee, asking that th(* Hospital Board undertake the treatment ol.' defects in children, pointed out hy Ur. Gunn during her inspections, free of charge. —Dr. Whitaker said that if all the schools would make such application (he hoard might lie aide to do something with the Health Department. Dr. Gunn inspected (he children, and as the cost of treatment recommended was far beyond some of the parents’ means, it could not he carried out. from the point of view of teeth alone, the expense was a very great one for the parents. —Air \V. Murdoch (Shannon) said that it was the duly of evencitizen in every country to look after the national interests. This was essentially a national interest. The country at present penalised the people with families, and they should at least he granted the advantages of free medical treatment for their children.—The chairman said that in the previous speaker’s own words it was a national Interest. It was not the Board's duty to take over the medical treatment of children. The Board’s powers were restricted hy the Health Department to the. care of the sick and the care of people injured hy accident. —Air Alurdoch: “At least we can use our moral influence.” —It was decided to inform the committee that the matter was beyond the Board’s jurisdiction. —Times.
