RED SHIELD CLUB.
A mooting' of the Commit too of Management of the Rod Shield Club was held last night to the future of the ■ movement. Then; were present: Major MacCaulay, representing' Salvation Army Ileadpuarters, Captain Klford, and Messrs Chryslall, Tver, Dcrreau, Brown, .VioMurrav and Whihloy.
At a meeting of the Committee and contributors to the funds held a Jew weeks back a motion had been proposed thai 'the Club be wound up and I lie assets be handed over to I lie Salvation Army, provided that body was prepared to take over the liab’lities. As an amendment to this, it was proposed that the Club be carried on, and this was carried. Since that meeting efforts had been made to obtain a suitable building to carry on the work, but. without Miccess, and last night’s meeting was convened to again consider the position.
It was mentioned that certain of I lie fluids property, consisting of chairs, soft furnishings, crockery, games, etc., had disappeared on the night of live lire, and could not be (raced. The liabilities of the flub were in the vicinity of £SO, but the assets would realise more than sufficient to pay these. Major McCauley said that as far as the Salvation Army was concerned thev did not wa.nl to retain
any surplus after paying the liabilities, and lie would recommend that any balance should be handed over to some local institution for the benefit; of the town. In this connecti-
on it was suggested that any surplus might be handed to the Beautifying Society for beautifying pur-
poses. After some discussion it was uuanimously decided that as no suitable building is available for carrying on the work of the lied .Shield Olid), the assets he handed over to (he Salvation Army, -provided they will undertake to pay the liabilities, and that it he a recommendation to the Salvation Army that any balance he handed over lo the Beautifying Society.
