AN UNUSUAL CASE.
NEWSPAPER PROPRIETOR FINED FOR CONTEMPT.

An unusual ease was heard by Mr Justice Herdman in the Supreme Court to-day, when application was tjnade on behalf of the AttorneyGeneral for an order to commit to prison Jhonms Patrick Williams, proprietor of the Westport lime* and Star, for contempt, in publishing matter relating to the action of the Stipendiary Magistrate at Westport in dealing with youths who refused to attend drill; or, a* yn alternative, that a writ of attachment be issued against the respondent. His Honour said the offence was a serious one, but as the Crown, had taken a lenient view, luPwouhl impose a fine of £lO with costs.
