ALLEGED LIBEL.
Wellington, Angus) 23,
Parly polities during the late General Elections and the actions of a county council official, and the criticism of the residents thereon were a mailer before the' Supreme Court, to-day in an action for libel by Robert Charles Dick, assistant road # inspector to the Hutfc County Council, against James Judge and 13 other residents of the di,strict. The. damages claimed were £2,000. It' was alleged that defendants sent, a letter or petition to the County Council „ containing the following words': “Thai during the recent election, during the hours on which he was supposed to be engaged in the Council’s work, he was actively employed in canvassing for the Red Fed, and disloyal organisations, and the candidates for Olaki and the Hud electorates.” One ground of defence was that the petition was a privileged communication written and published without malice. The case is proceeding. „
