SIR JOSEPH WARD.
The London correspondent of The Post writes: —‘‘Sir Joseph and Lady Ward are staying at the Savoy Hotel. They crossed the Stales Aviihout a break", word having been received Unit their steamer, the giant luipcralor, was to sail from New York two days earlier than scheduled lime. But they managed to make the connection after four and a-half days’ continuous travel. The crossing of the Atlantic took about nine days, and severe' summer fog was encountered on four of them. The fmperalor did not strive at any great speed, being handicapped hy very inferior coal and hy inexperienced stokers. There were three thousand passengers on board. The ship herself is of huge size, and the cabin accommodation is generous in its dimensions. Seasoned travellers as are Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, they had never seen Cherbourg, a! which French port the ship made a stay of live hours prior to coming into Southampton. They were'delighted with’ the place. It is Sir Joseph's ■ intention to have a rest. Therefure be is declining to be “interviewed,’’ though requests for his views and opinions have been made by representative London newspapers. Callers at the hotel are many, and so far Sir Joseph and Lady Ward have not been about much. They are delighted to see their friends. After about six - months in England they will go to the Uiverina for the winter."
