SCHOOL HOLIDAYS AND LOSS OF TIME.

AT the last meeting of the Wanganui Education Board, Air Erecth moved, and the Board carried, the following motion: “To impress upon school committees that the Board would strictly enforce the regulation limiting the power ,of a committee to give but three holidays in. the .year.” The mover condemned the promiscuous giving of holidays, which, he slated, was setting a wrong standard of school life. Ihe Chairman said that “years ago the Board took a stand over Empire Dav. Promiscuous holidays were becoming a farce, and they were generally holidays for the teachers, who barracked for them. Alien they go to 14 weeks’ holiday in a school year it was a farce.” hew committees realise the loss of one day’s school administration to the State. If parents had to pay direct for .school maintenance there would be fewer holidays than at present obtains. Schools should be kept going with the utmost regularity and punctuality. In one way and another the State is footing* the bill for tremendous leakages.
