FOOTBALL.
MEETING OE UNION,
A mooting of the Management Committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union was held at Levin on \\ ednesday night. Present: Messrs J. W. Procter (chairman), W. Wehi])eihana, and M. Wehipeihana.
The Koputaroa Club wrote protesting against the decision of the referee in the recent match with Kuku, as the ball in the last try scored by Kuku struck a spectator before being touched down. It was decided to inform the Koputaroa Club that the question of the ball striking a spectator and a score being registered was entirely at the discretion of the referee, and he could award a score if he thought tit. The Wanderers’ junior team entered a, protest against Foxton team’s win against them, on the ground that Foxton played a senior player, Hunt, and also that the Foxton Club had refused -to-play under the referee appointed by the Union. The Foxton delegates stated that Hunt had never played for the juniors, and also that at the request of (he secretary of the Union, a Foxton referee had been asked to referee the game, and was on the ground when the teams arrived, and naturally the Foxton team objected to the other referee taking the match, in view of the fact that no advice had been received from the Union that a change had been made.
The protest was dismissed, and (lie chairman said (lie referee diffleulty would be got over by appointing the referees earlier, and this would be done in future. The ehairman staled that there was some misapprehension regarding the age limit in (he third grade competition, The conditions were that (he players must not be more than 17 years of age. Mr Whiblcy said that the Foxton team had been allowed to play for live weeks before objection was made on the age limit. He asked if (lie players in the other third grade teams were within the limit.
Mr W. Wehipeihana, secretary of .the Union, said he could vouch for (he other teams. The age limit was distinctly slated when the competition was mooted. Mr W. Hines, coach of the .Foxl on t hird grade team, asked if his team would lose the points already won in The compel il ion. The chairman said yes. Mr Whihloy said his dub would object to the Union's ruling, as it was not in accordance with their own by-laws, and would stale a case to the Hew Zealand Union for decision. The chairman staled I hat would he the best course under the circumstances. < Air W. Heville, referee in the Wanderers-Fuxton junior match at .Foxton, reported D. Wilson, of the Wanderers, for objectionable tactics in the match, and later tor had language, the player having to he ordered off. -THAT After hearing the explanation of the player, it was decided that he be suspended till the end of the season. It was dedded to play three rounds in the senior competition.
