DAY ENGINEERING CLASSES.
AT PALMERSTON NORTH TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
Owing to the development of the scheme for promoting electric power from .Mangahao throughout this district, and the consequent development therefrom of various industries and a demand for workers with a knowledge of engineering and electrical work, the Palmerston N. Technical School Board has decided to commence day engineering classes at the Technical School, in order that local boys may be trained to supply the 'need for electricians, etc., later on. These classes will be of 4 hours duration each day, commencing at 11 a.ni., in order To give country boys an opportunity of getting in full time at their classes each day. Parents will be required to give a guarantee that their boys will attend regularly for twelve months at least, although- the junior course will be set for two years. '
The subjects taken cover alljthat is necessary for a well trained mechanic.
Boys of any age holding endorsed competency certificates and proficiency Certificates for Standard YI. can get free tuition and free railway passes. A guarantee of twenty hoys is required to start a class. Parents'* are therefore requested to communicate with the Director, who will be pleased to Supply any furtherdetails.
In view of the inevitable demand in the near future for trained electricians and engineering mechanics, it is hardly necessary .to point out the advantages to be gained by boys taking the engineering classes. A two years’ course in engineering would also be of great valu'd to lads going on the farm.
