The/e was a big' commotion in Gift oily lata this afternoon owing to the of a prime fat steer which- escaped from the Addington yards. He was chased by*a. stockman, but in his hurry the latter forgot his whip,' and he was powerless to turn the animal. The frolicsome bovine had a clear run through the centre of the city, but in' Colombo Etreet a pedestrian was not quick enough in getting to shelter. The steer tossed him playfully, rolled him over, prodded him twice with his horns, and then moved on, his subsequent movements being watched from defensive positions by large crowds.
A man wlio emerged from an hotel and ventured into the road to see what was amiss, was caught amidships, tossed, and left winded on the road. A woman was next tossed, and then a vacant section was explored by the steer, and in this he was corralled.
Messages wore,dispatched to the saleyards, and drovers came along with some well behaved cattle. The steer mixed with these, arid he wan got back to the yards without trouble. . ’
None of those who were tossed were seriously hurt,- but the Jirsti man to suffer the attentions of the steer Jiad Ft' have wounds on his head and body dressed ot the hospital. _____________
