In the first of the three races for the American Cup, Resolute parted her throat halyards half a mile from the turn, and withdrew. Shamrock IV will Avin the race provided she covers the course Avithin, the time limit.

The Resolute received li time alloAvance of 7 minutes 15 seconds on account of the Shamrock’s greater size. The Shamrock was fitted with a noAV “streamline” sail between the mainsail and the mast, giving her additional sail area. The Shamrock took a trial spin with the additional sail, and the skipper, Burton, stated that he Avas very avoll satisfied Avith the vessel’s performance. The Resolute can easily he repaired for Saturday’s race. Ngav York,- July 15,
