THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
JUNE GRADING RETURNS
The following return issued by (ho Agricultural Department shows the quantities of hemp, tow, and stripper-slips graded at the ports of the Dominion during the month of June, 1920: — Hemp.—The total number of halos graded was 4,983, as compared with 4,158 for the corresponding; month of last year, an increase of 825 halos. For the 12 months ended. 30th June, 1920, the number of hides graded was 93,045, as compar - ed with 113,043 for the previous 12 months, a decrease of 19,988 bales. Tow. — During the month 1,051 hales were graded, as compared with 002 hales for (lie corresponding month last year, an increase of 449 hales. For the 12 months ended 30th June, 1920, the number of bales graded was 20,454, as compared with 17,435 for the previous 12 month, an increase of 3,019 bales. Stripper-slips.—2o hides; corresponding month last year, nil. For the 12 months ended 301 h June-', 1920, 158 hales, as compared with 455 for the previous 12 months, a decrease of 297 hales. The following table shows the number of bales in the various grades at each port in the Dominion :—.
Forty-three bales al Pidon wove graded line, and 0 at Auckland, 7 at Foxton, and 1 at ’Wellington were rejcded. Tlie number of bales graded at each port was as follows: —Auckland 1,20(1, Foxlou 1,875, Wellington 1,508, Pieton 00, Blenheim 11.2, Lyttelton 82, Dunedin 12(1, BlulL’ 451. The number of bales in each grade throughout the Dominion was as unde]-, the total for the corresponding month of hist year being given in parentheses: —Fine 43 (11*1), good fair 1,22(1 (518), high-fair 2,147 (1707), fair 1,8(15 (1.550), common .185 (1(18), rejected 17 (8).
