SIX ADDITIONAL MEMBERS. It is announced that His Excellency the Governor-General has called the following gentlemen to the Legislative Council: — Mr. EDWARD HENRY CLARK, Palmerston South. Mr. MARK COHEN, Dune,bn. The HON. W. EARXSHAW, Wellington. The HON. C. A. C. HARDY, Canterbury. The HON. E. MITCHELSON, Auckland. Mr. PATRICK .1. XERHENY, Auckland. Mr. ROBERT SCOTT. Central Otago. COLONEL G. J. SMITH, Christchurch. Messrs Earnshaw and Hardy are present councillors, who have been re-appointed. The nominations of Colonel Smith and Mr Xerheny were agreed upon when the National Government held office. The Hon. E. H. Clark represented a Dunedin electorate in the House of Representatives some ten years ago. He is a prominent business man in Palmerston South. The Hon. Mark Cohen is editor of the Dunedin Star, and has for many years been prominent in journalistic and educational movements. The lion. E. Mitehelsoti was a member of BaiTiament from 1881 to 1807, and held Cabinet, milk for several years. He was acting-Premier In 1800. In Auckland lie has taken a leading part in all public' affairs. The Hon. B. •). Xerheny has been a member of the Auckland City Council for several years, and has also taken an active part in hospital administration. The Hon. R. Scott is ex-member for Tuapeka. and sal in the House of Representatives tor several years as member for Central Otago electorates. The Hon. Colonel G. J. Smith is an ex-M.B. and e.x-M.L.C. lie lir-t entered political life in 1803, hut retired for a time on being dei’ealed in 1800. He was appointed M.L.C. in 1007. Colonel Smith was a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the European war, and at Home had command for nearly a year of the New Zealand training camp at Sling, Salisbury Plain.
