FOOTBALL.
The junior representative match, Horowheima v. Rangitikei, played at Levin on Saturday afternoon, resulted in a win for Horowhenua by 13 points to nil. Just before the frame commenced rain commenced to fall, and the ground soon became very slippery, and at the end of the match was very little better than a mudliole. In spite of the bad state of the ground, however, some very good football was witnessed. It was generally a forward game, but there was a fair amount of hack play, and in this department the Horowhenua. backs gave a really fine display on the attack, their handling of the greasy ball being particularly good. The Rangitikei backs did not get much chance to attack, as they were generally on the defence, particularly in the second half, but they gave a very good exhibition of the defensive game. The first spoil was fairly even, Rangitikei making the play very willing from the start, and Horowhenua had to force twice in the first fifteen minutes, but the home team after this livened up, and even play resulted until the end of the spell. From a scramble near the line, Fogden got over. The shot at goal missed. Horowhenua 3 Rangitikei 0. In the second spell Rangitikei were mostly on the defensive, and Horowhenua scored two tries. The first of these was scored by Burkinan, near the corner, from a loose forward scramble. Taylor kicked a beautiful goal. The other try was scored by Reid, and was (lie lies! of the day, the ball passing through the hands of three players before it readied Reid, who beat his first opponent by feinting, and then cut in and beat two others and scored. Nepia converted.
There was no further score, and the game ended, Horowhenun 13 — Rangitikei 0. Mr T. Partita controlled the game lo the satisfaction of all.
The whole of (ho Ilorowliomta team played well, although one or two of the forwards ttre inclined to dodge the tighl play and watch for chances. Robinson, of Foxton, gave tin excellent display, and was undoubtedly the best forward on the ground. Robinson, of Hiti Mai. was also very prominent. Of I lit* backs, Porter and Reid 'played excellent games, and Taylor, al full back, did all I hat wtts asked of bitn.
